Ear Tubes or Not??

Since little Hallie has been home we have had LOTS going on.  I think I touched on everything in previous posts...but can't remember.

Among other things...P has had some fits with his ears.  Well actually he has only had one ear infection that has been so bad and it will NOT GO AWAY.  He has been on three rounds of antibiotics...maybe four, but I lost count.  When he was diagnosed with the flu, the doctor said he had an ear infection, but it wasn't very bad, so that is when it all began.

On Valentines Day our not so sweet (more on that later) little boy got his first set of tubes.  He did good through the procedure and appeared to be fine.  When we got home he was walking like a drunk, which was pretty entertaining. (these are all cell pics...so not the greatest quality)

Here are a couple pics of the little dude a few days leading up to getting the tubes....just felt awful!!

One of the worst parts of the surgery was not letting him have any milk the morning of.  The boy love his milk so that was definitely hard.

He went from being a bit scared...

to being happy after he was given some "happy juice"...

When we got home P played with h is new "chu chu's"

He went to school the next day and over the weekend as I was cleaning the drainage from his ears I noticed something round that came out and I brushed it off as being ear wax or just some drainage.  Well it turns out that it was the dang tube from his left ear.  So...back to the ENT we go, and we re-schedule an appointment for ear tubes again.  Well at school during the next week his ear drum ruptured, but he really didn't seem to be in any pain.  And now..we have been dealing with thick (almost snotty looking) ear drainage from his left ear.  On a funny note, we have been using the nasal aspirator to clean it out...and it works.  On February 28 he got his second set of ear tubes, and the doctor went ahead and replaced the right one as well.  And as you might have guessed the ear tube from the left ear fell out the next day at school.  I was beginning to blame the doctor, but after some discussion, our poor little P has so much thick drainage that the tube simply can't handle and it pushes it out.  We talked with the ENT and he consulted with a pediatric specialist along with the partners in his practice and we are in discussions on what to do next.  Actually, the doctor just called a little bit ago (on a Sunday) and I passed the phone to Jeremy because that would require me to use my listening skills, which quite frankly I don't have right now.  I just want the little fella to feel better!!!

After the second procedure, Pierson was so "chill" when went back to the recovery room.  Why can he not do this at home????
Also...on a different note, the ENT and anesthesiologist advised that they were not going to bill us for the second procedure.  They didn't have to do that, but I thought that was nice!

Say a prayer for my little man.  I hope there isn't anything serious going on.  There was some talk of ct scan, etc, and ugh...I don't want to go through that.  Hallie is still around..ha, but Pierson seems to be taking up A LOT of our time right now.

  1. Poor guy....looks so pitiful! Hope you guys figure it out. As you know, Drew busted his ear drum too...crazy how they both did not think that was very painful. Sure sounds like something that should be VERY painful!
